Hyderabad’s Gland Pharma closed the subscription period Wednesday for what will be the largest initial public offering in Indian history for a pharmaceutical firm, according to estimates from local media and Bloomberg.

Majority-owned by China’s Fosun Pharma, the generic injectables manufacturer plans to use the $871 million in estimated proceeds to add production capacity and expand into Africa and China, per Mint.

Fosun is buying an 86 percent stake in fellow generics supplier, Gland Pharma, the companies announced on Thursday. According to The Wall Street Journal, Fosun’s $1.26 billion purchase is China’s largest takeover yet of an Indian company. The deal requires Chinese, Indian and U.S. regulatory approvals, however.

Shanghai-based generics company Fosun has made a “non-binding proposal” to buy India’s Gland Pharma, Reuters reported on Monday.

Backed by investment firm KKR, Gland Pharma is estimated to be worth as much as $1.5 billion. Gland Pharma’s has reportedly also caught the attention of Baxter and Advent International, which are similarly interested in bidding on the sterile injectables manufacturer.
